An Indiana waterpark has been forced to temporarily close in light of a lawsuit and safety complaints.

In a court filing, Lecretia Johnson claimed that her foot was injured in the wave pool at Seven Peaks Waterpark in Porter, Ind., in 2015. The property was shut down on June 19 and is still closed due to a myriad of safety issues. It had opened on June 15, and the Porter County Health Department began receiving calls about the park a few days later, said Keith Letta, health administrator.

“They have a few problems,” Letta said. “None of their chlorination equipment was working.”

About a dozen children had to seek medical attention from pool chemical burns. Two other park guests suffered from broken collar bones while on one of the park rides, Letta said.

Park management is working toward getting the park reopened. “Seven Peaks has fully complied or is in the process of fully complying with all requirements and recommendations to higher standards than required,” said Jo Penney, a Seven Peaks representative. All filtration systems have been fully rebuilt and reconditioned, and all chemical control systems are being fully rebuilt, said Penny, who could not comment on the situation because it is a legal matter in progress.

Johnson’s attorney could not be reached for further details.
