A Round Rock welcome

As a quickly growing city, Round Rock, Texas, has a high concentration of new residents. With this renovation, officials wanted to foster a sense of community and history, so designers played off the city’s Old West past. Waterfeatures and zones reflect landmarks such as a large limestone quarry, historic water tower and Kenney Fort. Materials and finishes reflect those found in the Texas Hill country, some aged for an Old West feel.

Architect: Kimley-Horn

Aquatic Designer: Counsilman-Hunsaker

General Contractor: Chasco Constructors

Pool/Spa/Waterfeature Contractor: Atlantis Aquatic Group

To address a lack of teen attractions, the team devised a section called The Quarry. A 12½-foot-high diving platform is blended in an artificial-rock structure to mimic cliff diving. Other features include a 4-foot drop slide, rock-climbing wall and sunbathing hill. Designers tapped into the shipping-container craze, converting some into for-rent cabanas. This also ties into the city’s railroad history and trimmed infrastructure costs.

For adults, The Watering Hole has a resort feel, with a swim-up bar, 6-inch-deep sun shelf, three 60-inch televisions and plenty of in-water bench seating. The Hitching Post, features three to four food trucks and trailers that can be rotated throughout the season. This increased dining options with limited infrastructure and maximized flexibility.

The main food area, called the Hitching Post, features three to four food trucks and trailers that can be rotated throughout the season. This expanded the existing facility’s limited dining options with limited infrastructure and maximum flexibility. This has provided the city with a high-profit-margin revenue stream.
