As president of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, Paterson was charged with tightening up an organization that was under financial duress.

He used his experience as the current senior vice president of sales and marketing, North and South America, at D&D Technologies to get NDPA running like a well-oiled machine.

He shepherded the organization as it went back to its 100 percent volunteer roots. He also brought on a handful of additional board members and devised an actionable, strategic plan that NDPA has been executing the past two years.

“We’ve really turned it around 360 degrees, and I think everybody feels really good about what we’re doing,” Paterson says.

Attendance at the annual conference continues to grow, with this year’s event promising to be the largest yet.

When his three-year run as president ends in July, Paterson is confident the organization’s finances will stand solid. And his affiliation with NPDA will not end at that point anyway because as he plans to remain on the board.

“Life will go on,” he says.
