It’s enough to make even the least bookish kid learn the Dewey Decimal system. Flash a library card and you can splash down your favorite slides at the two-year-old Waco Water Park in Waco, Texas, this year’s Class 8 winner.

That’s just one of the park’s many promotions this summer — from teen nights to lessons to family holidays to lifeguard training.

Host of the Amateur Athletic Federation’s Games of Texas, the city of Waco seized the opportunity to showcase the Waco Water Park to competitors and spectators. More than 2,000 swimmers competed in the six-lane competition pool over a span of three days. Spectators watched under the hot summer sun or sought relief in the leisure pool.

The waterpark features the competitive pool, a lazy river ride, a vortex pool, children’s play area and two winding water slides.

In conjunction with local colleges, swimming lessons andlifeguard training are among the regular programs available, including Guard Start, a program for children 8 to 14 who dream of being future lifeguards.
