WhiteWater’s MASSIV water coaster, which is located in Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark in Galveston, Texas, recently received the World Waterpark Association’s Leading Edge Award.

MASSIV earned this award, which is given to parks and suppliers who have developed new concepts, products, or services, for its Smart Blast technology. The coaster stands at 81 feet, 6 3/4 inches, making it the world’s tallest water coaster. The ride requires a lot of power to propel riders throughout the coaster, and Smart Blast allows the coaster to use water and power more efficiently while in operation.

Rather than continually running the jets to pump water, the new system saves power by only ramping up motor speed when it’s needed to drive riders uphill. Wear and tear on the mechanical equipment is also reduced because the motor is not constantly running at a set speed.
